printRussia plans to get fuel from gas byproduct of crude

Russia plans to get valuable fuel from gas the byproduct of crude oil, which is also a chemical raw material.
For many years, the gas was flared and the problem became serious for the country since up to 90 per cent of such gas went up in flames. In recent years though, the situation has taken a turn for the better, said Gennady Shmal, president of the Russian Union of oil and gas industrialists.
"Russia now has the necessary technology of converting the gas byproduct of crude into electricity, and the Surgut oil and gas company is the leader in the use of such gas to produce electrical energy," reveals Shmal. "The company has achieved almost a hundred per cent level in the conversion of such gas into energy, while the average percentage of the conversion of gas into energy is 70 in the whole country."
"Other oil companies in Russia are planning to emulate Surgut and TNK-BP has created an innovative gas turbine electro-station, which will process the gas byproduct of crude oil into fuel. Rosneft and the World Bank have a joint project. Russian scientists are working on a project for the use of gas byproduct to produce plastics and rubber," disclosed Shmal.
"There is a need to find the technology that would enable Russia to use the valuable waste left from the use of light oil and dry gas for the production of electro energy, to make oil-chemical items. The Russian project on the conversion of the gas byproduct of crude oil may have a global significance since the said gas is both a valuable raw material as well as a source of serious danger."
The gas byproduct of crude oil has been blamed for the explosion on the BP oil platform in the gulf of Mexico, which has led to incalculable ecological and environmental disaster.
